AtScale Embraces the Digital Revolution at the CIO Forum in TorontoAt AtScale, we’re only as successful as our customers. Everyday, we strive to make sure that our customers are equipped with the right tools and support that they need to succeed. Who is behind these operations? Today we introduce you to a key player of our customer success team, Martin Carrillo.
What’s your role here at AtScale?
A: I’m part of the Customer Success team, in charge of renewals.
How long have you been working with the company for?
A: I joined AtScale December 2015. So, almost four years.
Walk us through a day in the life. What’s the first thing that you do when you walk into the office?
A: The first thing that I do is go over the status of our customers. I make sure that there aren’t any outstanding issues, questions and/or requests that they might have.
The last thing that you do before you leave?
A: Update the status of all customers.
Why should potential customers choose AtScale over our competitors? What makes our solution unique?
A: Competitors? What competitors? The ability to bring users to their data from BI tools that support both SQL and MDX is unique. In addition to improving performance by optimizing user requests and delivering a semantic layer that allows users to define re-usable business rules (calculations).
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
A: Seeing our customers leveraging our technology to solve business problems.
Do you have any customer success stories that stand out to you?
A: Home Depot had implemented several solutions using Teradata, Microstrategy, SQL Server Analysis Services and Excel. However, could not keep up with the data volumes and variety of needs by their business users. SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) required data movement from Teradata to the cube. Lot’s of CPU consumption on teradata that had to be managed. The entire process of re-loading cube after a major release would take 3 weeks and re-casting data would take 16 hours over the weekend.
Home Depot embarked on a journey to re-architect their existing solution and it the process they decided to move to Hadoop and AtScale. AtScale allowed their business users to query against data in place without the need to move data to SSAS. In addition, AtScale provided the optimal query performance that their users required.
We worked closely with Home Depot to successfully implement two solutions using AtScale that are now in production and used daily by hundreds of users. Home Depot partnered with AtScale to resolve performance issues they encounter. We were able to provide guidance and recommendations to address the issues.
A year later Home Depot decided to move from Hadoop to Google Big Query, AtScale allowed them to migrate from Hadoop to the cloud without impacting their business users, there was no need of re-creating cubes or reports.
Describe the AtScale team in three words.
A: Focused, Talented, Accountable.
What do you love most about working at AtScale? Why did you choose to work here?
A: The vision, the people and the culture.
Tell us a fact about yourself that people may be surprised to learn.
A: I played Division I soccer.
It’s the weekend. What are you most likely doing?
A: At the baseball field watching my son play or at the tennis courts watching my daughters compete.
